Our commitment to public service
Our Mission
The Kitigan Zibi Police Service is dedicated to protecting and serving the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community through professional, culturally responsive, and community-focused policing. Our officers enforce Kitigan Zibi Band By-laws, the Criminal Code of Canada, and the Highway Safety Code of Québec, while working collaboratively with community members and partner agencies to promote public safety, prevent crime, and build trust.
Our History
Founded in 1982, the Kitigan Zibi Police Service (KZPS) has proudly served the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community for more than 40 years. Located approximately 115 km north of Gatineau–Ottawa, KZPS provides professional policing services across approximately 235 km², ensuring the safety and well-being of residents through emergency response, investigations, crime prevention, traffic enforcement, and community engagement.
Kitigan Zibi serves as an important corridor between southern and northern Québec, with approximately 10,000 motorists travelling through the territory each week. This unique location presents distinct policing responsibilities, requiring officers to respond to both community needs and the demands of a busy transportation route.
Our Vision
Our vision is to foster a safe, healthy, and resilient community where every person feels respected, protected, and supported. Staffed entirely by members of the Kitigan Zibi community, our service is rooted in local knowledge, cultural understanding, and strong relationships. Working in accordance with Québec's Police Act, we strive to deliver policing services that meet provincial standards while reflecting the values, traditions, and priorities of the Kitigan Zibi. Through integrity, professionalism, and partnership with the Kitigan Zibi Band Council, community organizations, and other agencies, we are committed to strengthening trust and enhancing the quality of life for present and future generations.
